Monsoon trough brings decent rain to the top end of the country. The rains do start falling along the southwest coast to the northwest however, so I'm very excited to try another place for those days in October. I'm sure the water depth will be well below sea level as it's a tropical river and not a tributary, and it'll stay close to shore. With the tropical winds and cold wind that will be coming, I'll need some protective rain gear to cover me as well.

I have taken one of the backcountry backpacker's guides and we are going to see if she knows anything about the river before we set out. She'll be the first person we go with if we don't know anything at that stage.

I'll need the rain gear, which I just put aside for tomorrow's rainy days, so I plan to go on the road. This will be a nice walk back to my tent as well.

We'll have the rain gear on by 8am and get some time to enjoy the walk back to camp.

TODAY

My tent is still quite damp and freezing all along with the rain.

The rain is starting to subside.

The sun gets up in the west now and it's easy to see up into the high sky.

The high sun helps it warm up a little bit in the east as well.

I can still see the south east coast for a little bit after the last couple of hours of rain.

As the sun sets, the west coast and coast of Mexico will start to light up.

My tent is still a bit damp but it'll begin to heat up in the early morning.

We get a little bit closer to the river today.

The next time I'm hiking with my friends again, we're going to head out to the beautiful, wild Mexican Plateau and maybe have a quick stop on the way back. I plan to spend a couple more days this way just to see what's there to see and to get better at spotting wildlife!

I'm very happy we made it back through the night and I have very positive views in our direction. At this point in the tour, I have gotten pretty good at not panicking when I see something moving in the distance.

TODAY

This morning, I've been reading up on our local weather and it looks like we are going to see a cold front. I won't be heading back into the mountains for awhile and this will be my final stop on our hike that afternoon.
